Azar's gonna heal you with tones and colors, or there'll be Osiris to pay. Read Burk's New Angeles Monthly story here.
One thing underplayed in the story, cuz there wasn't enough space, is the way Azar Lawrence actually talks. So here's a slice:
"John Coltrane, let’s use it as a call word for the spiritual music, the music where you can feel God is in the music, or that the vibratory elements of the music are exhibiting a high enough vibratory rate that brings the quickness, the awareness . . . you feel it. Feel God operating. One has refined his craft enough where the decision of it starts to exhibit this godliness, where he’s gotten close enough to where the Most High can come through. It’s with our bodies, these type of individuals where they can start, through fasting, guiding, meditation, right living, right thought and all this, start to get your instrument, your body, in tune, and the vibratory rate is that which is high enough, that the creative energies can operate without burning you up.
“That’s what happens, like, with John Coltrane. Like they say, if we knew the true name of God, the way we goddamn it and all the way we start to define it, we wouldn’t live to hear it come out -- if we knew the true name, the true vibratory syllables. It’s been passed down through the ages, when we weren’t so closed in matter and the materialistic areas. But that’s all right, because that’s part of it too, as we in the involution, evolution, as we fall from heaven and get more earthly and become more spiritual as well, as we are on our way kind of now.
“So that’s why we’re becoming, and in Trane, and Martin Luther King, whoever they are, of all races and creeds, have come to herald the coming of us as a whole race, the whole energy."
